'Tis The Season

McGehee celebrates the beginning of the 2006 Christmas holiday season with an afternoon and evening of holiday festivities kicked off by "A County Christmas" performance in the park, followed by Christmas Carols from the Tabernacle Baptist Church Youth Choir. The much anticipated "Arkansas Midland Railroad Santa Train" arrived at the Train Depot on schedule carrying none other than Santa and Mrs. Claus. While Santa visited with the children and his helpful little elves handed out gifts the First Baptist Church Youth presented "Miracle on Main Street" after which  The First Baptist Church Choir sang Christmas Carols as the Annual Downtown Christmas Parade prepared to begin.

Just after sundown the Annual McGehee Christmas Parade began with the sound of sirens, marching bands, and the voices of excited children and young at heart. The parade was escorted through town by McGehee and Desha County patrol cars followed by a host of floats decorated by local clubs, businesses, churches schools and civic organizations. Highlights of the parade included the McGehee Junior and Senior High School Dance Teams, high school bands from McGehee and Dollarway. Disney characters Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Cinderella and Captain Jack Sparrow were on hand as part of the "Wonderful World of McGehee Bank" float. A locally built calliope played Christmas music by Mrs. Alicia Whitaker adding to the holiday atmosphere.
